Welcome to the Pokemon: The Stats Region[]

Welcome to the Stats Region! This region is focused around the AP Statistics course, which is studied by our very own Pokemon professor, Professor Yew.

Why is the Stats Region so special?[]

The Stats Region features all new Pokemon and content with never before seen moves and abilities all focused around statistics. Like in other regions, you can only carry six Pokemon with you at a time, but any extra Pokemon that you catch can be organized in the sample spaces in your PC box. Wild Pokemon levels abide by the Central Limit Theorem: the more of the Pokemon that there are in an area, the more normal the distribution of their level is.

Sampling[]

Simple Random Sample[]

Most Pokemon's sexes are determined by SRS, so either gender has an equal chance of being assigned to each Pokemon

Stratify Random Sampling[]

Each Pokemon species is assigned to a type.

Cluster

A cluster of wild Pokemon

Cluster Sampling[]

Some Pokemon can appear in hoards (this means that they appear five at a time instead of one at a time in the wild). Unlike in hoard encounters, the Pokemon may be all different.

Systematic Sampling[]

Encorporating the ORAS DexNav, every time you sneak up on a species of Pokemon for the tenth time, levels will reset back to the base level. For example, if you are in an area where level 27 Scatterplots are common and sneak up on a Scatterplot for the ninth or tenth time, you may find one on level 35. On the eleventh time, it will reset back to level 27.

The Poller[]

Poller

The Poller

Once a day the Poller will have a poll. If you can figure out what kind of bias his polls have, he will give you a random berry.

Example Poll Questions[]

Voluntary Response: I'll give you a berry if you answer my poll!

Convenience Sampling: Hey, since you're here, would you mind taking my poll?

Undercoverage: Sorry, you're not the kind of person that I want taking this poll.

Non-response Bias: I have a poll today, but you don't have to answer it if you're too busy.

Response Bias: Don't you think the amazing Stats Region is better than the outdated and boring Kanto Region?

Stan(dard) Error[]

Like the Poller, Stan will give you rewards for answering questions. Unlike the Poller, Stan moves around. Each time he moves to a new area, Stan will ask you to estimate the standard deviation of of a sample of Pokemon in that area. If you answer correctly, he will give you a prize.
